Sebastian, Clayton and David Young enjoy working in the great outdoors.
Dubbo and Nymboida locals, Clayton and Sebastian Young have turned their love for exploring the outdoors as children into a thrilling career path to success.
The Young brothers are now creating successful futures with leading Australian outdoor education organisations, Outward Bound Australia and Southbound Adventures thanks to TAFE NSW Lithgow.
“I’ve always enjoyed whitewater kayaking and guiding people in my spare time. My Dad encouraged me to apply for a traineeship with Outward Bound Australia and I haven’t looked back,” Clayton Young said.
“Completing a Certificate III and IV in Outdoor Recreation at TAFE NSW Lithgow has given me the skills to challenge myself and help others to grow and learn about the outdoors.
“I’ve learnt how to navigate and bushwalk in off-track environments which I am able to now teach students as a Lead Instructor at Outward Bound Australia.”
Sebastian Young will complete his traineeship at Southbound Adventures in December this year and will graduate with a Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation at TAFE NSW in February 2019.
“I have really enjoyed my time at TAFE NSW and have been able to use the expertise I have learnt along the way in my traineeship at Southbound Adventures.
“Being able to help students test their abilities and change their habits to appreciate the little things in life is so rewarding,” he said.
“My TAFE NSW teachers have pushed me to learn how to handle tough situations and given me the ability to be confident in any situation.”
Proud Father, David Young, couldn’t be happier about the career path his sons have chosen.
“Working in the outdoors has always been a passion of mine and it was clear that Clayton and Sebastian shared that passion with me,” he said.
“The boys are enjoying their work and creating their own lives, differently to what I did, but it is exciting to see and hear the adventures they are undertaking.”
TAFE NSW Head Teacher Sport and Fitness, Simone Carroll-Germech, said both students have a bright future ahead of them.
“Clayton and Sebastian show great initiative and compassion and are the perfect example of students coming to TAFE NSW to get the skills for a career they’ll love,” she said.
