SPECIAL GUEST: Head chef and owner of Stepping Stone Restaurant in Orange Thomas Grasso will speak at the National Skills Week event in Orange.
TAFE Western Orange College Student Engagement Officer Gail Kendell believes that National Skills Week 2015 is about discovering the journey to an exciting career.
TAFE Western will showcase some of their exciting options open to students with a special event to celebrate National Skills Week at the March Street College on Wednesday, August 26.
“School students who are leaving school may not be sure what they want to do next year, or someone may be looking for a change in career – either way I’m encouraging them to come and get the inside scoop into a range of careers available at TAFE Western at our National Skills Week event,” Ms Kendell said.
“They will hear firsthand about the day in the life of a chef, event manager, IT expert, and welfare and social worker – all previous TAFE Western students who have used their training to start exciting new careers.
“There will be a session on planning career goals, and SkillSet will give insight into becoming an apprentice, so there’ll be something there for everyone.”
Head chef and owner of Stepping Stone Restaurant in Orange Thomas Grasso will be one of the special guest speakers.
Mr Grasso started out as a kitchenhand but thanks to experience at a top Sydney restaurant and extensive training at TAFE Western, has become one of Orange’s most highly regarded chefs.
“I’ll be talking about a day in the life of a chef - I’ll have some good tips about what to expect if you want a career as a chef along with some funny stories,” Mr Grasso said.
“I’d really encourage anyone to come along if they’re passionate about cooking to find out more. In my experience, I had the passion but TAFE gave me the skills.”
Ms Kendell said TAFE Western’s National Skills Week event was open to everybody, and will be held from 1-4pm on Wednesday, August 26, at the Student Hub.
