Year 10 students in the Bathurst and central west region are being encouraged to come along to TAFE NSW Bathurst’s TVET (TAFE-delivered Vocational Education and Training) Open Day on Wednesday, July 26.
TAFE NSW TVET Consultant Jacquie Smith said the Open Day was the perfect opportunity for potential students and their parents/guardians to explore the exciting career options available at TAFE NSW.
“The main focus of the Open Day is to introduce TVET to the Year 10 students, giving them more viable career options to consider before they select their subjects for Years 11 and 12, and of course once they’ve completed school,” Ms Smith said.
“The Open Day will offer an up close look at TAFE NSW’s state-of-the-art facilities, as well as providing unprecedented access to TAFE teachers and student engagement officers who can provide advice on courses, mobile learning options and much, much more.”
Ms Smith said some of the most popular TVET courses offered at TAFE NSW in Bathurst included Automotive, Nursing, Business, Electrotechnology, Early Childhood Education and Care, Hospitality, Animal Services, Plumbing and Community Services – with many more options available.
TAFE NSW Regional General Manager Kate Baxter said there had never been a better time for high school students to consider coming to TAFE.
“TAFE continues to outperform university, with recent research by McCrindle revealing that 78% of VET graduates are successful in finding work after they graduate compared with 67% of university graduates, and this increases to 92% for those who train as part of a traineeship/apprenticeship,” Ms Baxter said.
“Not only does the VET sector provide better employment outcomes, the report indicated that the median starting wage was $54,000 for university graduates compared to $56,000 for VET graduates.
“As TAFE NSW is the leading provider of education and training in the VET sector in western NSW I believe this is a really positive result for our students and something potential students and their parents/guardians should seriously take into consideration when assessing their future education and training needs.”
