EXCITED: Lightning Ridge Community Customer Support officer Donna Lund with Institute Director Kate Baxter. Mrs Lund if looking forward to representing TAFE Western at this year's Opal Festival.
The Opal Festival has been an exciting part of Lightning Ridge’s heritage for more than four decades, and for the first time TAFE Western will showcase its offerings with a site at this year’s show.
Lightning Ridge Community Customer Support Officer Donna Lund said TAFE Western would get right into the spirit of the festival, showcasing a number of courses, education and learning opportunities including the introduction of new opal cutting classes.
“The Opal Festival is Lightning Ridge’s premier annual attraction so I thought it was the perfect opportunity for TAFE Western to get more involved in our close-knit community,” Mrs Lund said.
“Being a Lightning Ridge local for more than 20 years I love going to the Opal Festival and I’m really excited TAFE Western will have a site there this year.”
Mrs Lund said several TAFE Western staff would be on-hand to discuss the large range of courses and training opportunities available at the Lightning Ridge College.
“We’d also like to spread the word about TAFE Western’s innovative student support services and TAFE Western Connect (TWC), which allows people in remote locations like Lightning Ridge the chance to study where they live or work,” Mrs Lund said.
“So I’m encouraging the Lightning Ridge community to come and speak to us, we’d love to know what our community wants and how TAFE Western can help. We’ll be situated in the outdoor area opposite the bowling club on Friday and Saturday.”
