TAFE Western will continue to work closely with Hunan University of Humanities, Science and Technology (HUHST) in China on a number of exciting projects after the two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Orange last week.
TAFE Western Institute Director Kate Baxter and President of HUHST Liu Heyun were both thrilled to announce the partnership, with both organisations agreeing to:
Mr Liu Heyun and a small group of HUSHT delegates spent two days last week touring TAFE Western’s facilities in Dubbo and Orange.
This was a return visit after six staff from TAFE Western spent time in China giving delegates a unique perspective on Australia’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) practices in October.
“Although our delegation’s visit to TAFE Western is short, we have gained a lot,” Mr Heyun said.
“We have toured TAFE Western’s workshops and classrooms, and interacted with teachers and executive staff. We are very impressed and the long trip to TAFE Western for us has been a fruitful one.”
Mr Heyun and the delegates toured Dubbo’s Myall Street college, learning more about TAFE Western’s Aboriginal education practices and how the Student Hub operates. They were also inspired by a TAFE Western Connect (TWC) videoconferencing demonstration and thoroughly enjoyed the Narromine Road automotive department.
“The way that TAFE Western blends theoretical and practical learning and the methods of distance learning delivery are very advanced,” Mr Heyen said. “When we go back, we will definitely put this into practice.”
“I am very impressed by the automotive and machinery workshops, the hands-on practice carried out by students and the courses which are delivered are fantastic.”
In Orange, the delegates enjoyed a formal welcome dinner and the MOU signing was part of a breakfast business meeting.
“It was very exciting to have the HUHST Chinese delegates visit TAFE Western and see first-hand some of our state-of-the-art facilities and programs that we offer,” Ms Baxter said.
“The partnership with HUHST will provide our staff and students with a number of exciting international opportunities and we’re looking forward to a long and lasting relationship with one of China’s most highly regarded public universities.”
