More than 60 AVEO Aged Care Shanghai delegates have derived great benefit from a special masterclass delivered by TAFE Western Nursing Teacher Jennifer Tauaalo in China earlier this year.
Ms Tauaalo captivated the audience during the five-day masterclass with a unique perspective on Aged Care services and techniques available and used in Australia.
“The focus of the masterclass was to provide an introduction to Aged Care practice and skills,” Ms Tauaalo said. “The topics covered included current trends in Aged Care, safety practices in the workplace, health issues for older people and their management, and the roles and responsibilites of an Aged Care worker.
“Participants enjoyed the western style of teaching and the opportunity to ask questions and be actively involved in the learning process.
“They were also very interested in the use of Australian health care examples as well as our knowledge and experience, which was vastly different to theirs.”
From a personal perspective, Ms Tauaalo labelled delivering the masterclass an amazing and life-changing experience.
“I really enjoyed delivering the masterclass because the participants were so enthusiastic and willing to participate and really embraced the learning opportunities that were presented to them,” Ms Tauaalo said.
“I enjoyed the challenge of translation and the opportunity to demonstrate how we teach in Australia.
“It was amazing to learn about the Chinese culture, appreciate the vast differences between Australian and Chinese culture and also the participants I was able to develop relationships with.”
This is another example of TAFE Western’s state-of-the-art learning techniques enthralling audiences in China.
In the past 12 months, masterclasses focused on Online and Blended Delivery Methods, VET and Early Childhood Education have all been well received, with many participants reporting they successfully introduced things learnt during the masterclasses into their everyday teaching techniques.
