The future of the building and construction industry is in safe hands with Cowra’s next generation of budding builders, Janama Lambshead and Zach Cook, one step closer to their dream careers.
The talented duo are in the final stages of completing their apprenticeship training at TAFE NSW Cowra. Janama and Zach will then be eligible to apply for their carpenter’s licence and progress to studying a Certificate IV in Building and Construction at TAFE NSW - the final training required before being qualified to apply for their builder’s licence.
“Janama and Zach’s employers continue to provide really positive feedback that the students are developing into hardworking carpenters with bright futures in the industry,” TAFE NSW Cowra Construction Teacher Wayne Saunders said.
“Both students have worked really hard to acquire skills that will one day allow them to build a house from start to finish.
“Janama and Zach have certainly come a long way from when they started studying at TAFE NSW in a pre-apprenticeship construction course. To think they’re now close to obtaining their builder’s licence is inspiring.
“It’s also a wonderful example of how TAFE NSW can not only help nurture these students all the way through their training, but also provide them with exciting, practical and real-life employment opportunities.”
Mr Lambshead was the first Aboriginal student to complete the pre-apprenticeship construction course at TAFE NSW Cowra.
“During my studies I have learnt the components involved with building new homes and it’s been great to be able to put these skills into practice while on the job with my employer, Ray Clements Construction,” he said.
“To be able to obtain my builder’s licence would be a dream come true.”
Mr Cook said “I’m looking forward to learning how to run a business in the Certificate IV in Building and Construction, which includes building site management and job estimation. I’d love to build my own house one day,” he said.
