As a single mum of two girls, Sarah Buchtmann just wants a reliable job and to give her girls the best possible opportunities. This dream is now a reality.
Sarah has just graduated from TAFE Western with a Certificate III in Dental Assisting and has obtained employment at Doctor Andrew Flatau’s Dental Practice.
Dentistry is an expanding health area and TAFE Western’s Orange College is the only provider of dental assisting courses in western NSW.
Sarah said, “Since finishing school I had worked in the hospitality industry and even tried my hand at hairdressing but knew I wanted to work in a job that really assisted people.
“The Certificate III in Dental Assisting took 12 months to complete and I learnt a lot including dental procedures, dental radiography, infection control and oral hygiene”, she said. “The best part of the course was the two weeks work experience I completed at the Orange Health Service Dental Clinic and I would recommend TAFE to everyone. I would not have gotten the job with Doctor Flatau if it wasn’t for TAFE. The teachers are so supportive and the training was relevant.”
Sarah is now considering enrolling in TAFE Westerns Certificate IV in Dental Assisting which will provide a pathway into Oral Health or Dentistry at Charles Sturt University.
Enrolments for the Certificate III in Dental Assisting being offered at TAFE Western in 2015 are now open. Prospective students should visit TAFE Western’s Orange College or call 1300 823 393 for further information.
