A crowd of over 60 students and staff gathered at TAFE Western Orange College’s Student Hub to celebrate Harmony Day last week.
TAFE Western Student Engagement Officer Jo Sedgers said Harmony Day was a celebration of harmony and diversity celebrated worldwide.
“The Orange Student Hub treated all comers to a selection of iconic biscuits and teas from around the world served under an eye-popping collection of colorful national flags,” Ms Sedgers said.
“Participants placed pins on a large world map to mark their country of origin and participated in a competitive game of multicultural trivia.”
Ms Sedgers said Harmony Day participants acknowledged the traditional owners of the land, followed by a special presentation from Orange City Council’s Migrant Support Worker Anni Gallagher, who spoke about the importance of Harmony Day and encouraged all participants to mingle whilst sharing the biscuits.
"It was great to have so many people from so many different cultures participate in Harmony Day, a really important day on the Australian calendar,” Ms Sedgers said.
