Managing school, her studies and a childcare traineeship is child’s play for talented young Forbes resident Chelsea Turner.
The busy Year 12 Forbes High School captain discovered her passion for working with children by studying at TAFE NSW in Year 11. Chelsea demonstrated such adoration for the industry she successfully earnt a school-based traineeship at Bright Beginnings Early Learning Centre while she continued studying a Certificate III in Childhood Education and Care at TAFE NSW.
Bright Beginnings Early Learning Centre Director, Kym Goodall, said Chelsea made a valuable contribution at the centre while on her work placement.
“She was very self-motivated, mature and dedicated to the children and their needs. When she asked if a school-based traineeship was available at the centre we knew we had to keep her,” Ms Goodall said.
“Chelsea is learning new skills in child development and workplace procedures at TAFE NSW which are proving to be very beneficial in her role.”
Ms Turner said managing school, TAFE NSW study and a childcare traineeship is a balancing act, but has taught her how to work hard and prioritise.
“The reward of having a qualification before I finish school is enough to motivate me to keep managing my time effectively,” Ms Turner said.
“There is always a sense of pride and achievement when you see how far the children have come, from when they first arrived at the centre.
“What I love about studying at TAFE NSW is the freedom and flexibility to not only work in classrooms, but online when it suits me. The support I have received from Susan Bird (Head Teacher Early Childhood Education and Care) and TAFE NSW staff has been amazing, they have really helped me work to my full potential.”
Ms Bird said Chelsea was very focussed on achieving her goals.
“Chelsea successfully manages a full load of study while demonstrating a zest and can-do attitude which has placed her perfectly to achieve great things,” she said.
“Chelsea is one example of students coming to TAFE NSW to get the skills and experience they need to be job ready in a career they’ll love.”
