From maintaining good hygiene to providing customers the best customer service, Dubbo’s Eloise Lambell has all the right ingredients thanks to the practical skills she is learning at TAFE NSW.
Eloise quickly discovered a passion for food services when she completed a Certificate IV in Hospitality. She loved the hands-on learning and ability to study theory alongside practical skills so much, she is now completing a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery at TAFE NSW Dubbo and sees a bright future in the industry.
“I use the skills I am developing every day at work (Dahab Café) and I believe I’m only able to do my job because of what I have learnt and continue to learn at TAFE NSW,” she said.
“Something I really struggled with when I first started out was money handling, but I was able to overcome my nerves after the ample experience I received getting real-life experiences in the TAFE NSW Dubbo training restaurant.”
Owner of Dahab Café, Marley Khattab, said Eloise was a great asset to the café and very polite to the customers.
“We are noticing her fine-tune her skills in food handling and she doesn’t mind doing any job we throw her way,” he said.
“To develop her skills in commercial cooking we are arranging for her to work a few days a week in the kitchen, which will help the café as well as enable her to practice what she is learning at TAFE NSW.”
Dubbo Head Teacher for Tourism and Hospitality, Sue Greer, said Eloise was a model student and it was clear that she had really found her calling in a booming industry.
“Australian Government statistics reveal that food services is classed as one of the top five industries in terms of opportunities and growth across the country, and is the leading youth employment section in NSW,” she said.
“Eloise is the perfect example of students coming to TAFE NSW and learning practical skills that are highly sought after in the hospitality industry and result in real-life employment outcomes.
Ms Greer said enrolments are now open for semester two at TAFE NSW. For more information on more than 1200 courses to support exciting careers visit www.tafensw.edu.au or phone 131 601.
