Mt Panorama will become the focal point for a new motorsport training course to be offered by TAFE NSW Western Institute in partnership with Bathurst Regional Council.
The Certificate II in Motorsport involves attendance at Bathurst TAFE and the Mount Panorama Motorsport Training Centre three days a week for a fifteen week period. It also requires student to have work experience in the motorsport industry.
Institute Director, Adrian Mitchell said, “TAFE’s partnership with Bathurst Regional Council has established the Mount Panorama Motorsport Training Centre. This enables students and teachers to use two of the service barns at Mount Panorama, outside the main race periods, as well as the automotive section of Bathurst TAFE College.
“This outcome provides a unique opportunity for the motor sport industry as well as those who dream about working in the sport. It’s a great outcome for Bathurst to utilise the internationally famous racing facility and TAFE’s recognised training capacity.
“We expect the training centre and new motorsport course will attract international students as well as from all states in Australia.”
“This course will provide skills, work experience and a qualification for its graduates to work as service mechanics in motorsports.
People interested in the Certificate II in Motorsport will not have to meet any formal educational pre-requisites, but will need to be employed in or have access to a workplace in the automotive motorsport industry to gain sufficient experience to complete all the course requirements.
The first intake of students will be in July 2009 and people interested in the course should ring (02) 6391 4000.
