A set of skills to equip individuals for work in food handling to ensure food safety.

Pathways Information
Achievement of this unit provides credit towards qualifications in tourism, travel, hospitality, events, holiday parks and resorts in the SIT Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package.

Licensing/Regulatory Information
Certification requirements apply at a state and territory level to individuals involved in food handling. Certification in some States relies on the achievement of SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety.

Food safety legislative and knowledge requirements may differ across borders. Those developing training to support the unit must consult the relevant state or territory food safety authority to determine any accreditation arrangements for courses, trainers and assessors.

How will I study?

This is a flexible delivery course which provides a set of skills to equip individuals in hygienic practices and handling food safely during the storage, preparation, display, service, and disposal of food in a variety of hospitality settings. All coursework and assessments are completed at home. The course is offered in a number of locations including Dubbo; Narromine; Nyngan; Warren, Cobar; Bourke; Gilgandra; Gulargambone; Coonamble; Walgett; Lighting Ridge; Broken Hill; Mudgee

When will I study?

Class attendance is Part time

This is a flexible delivery course. Students have 12 months from their enrolment date to complete the course.

Course length: 1 Year

What will I pay?

Your enrolment is not complete until you have finalised your fees of $160. Refund of the course fee is only due in the following circumstances: - TAFE NSW has cancelled the course you were enrolled in; or - You formally advise the campus in writing at least seven days prior to the start of the course that you wish to withdraw. For cancellations advised within seven days of the start date of the course, no refunds are made. However, a substitute delegate may attend. Non-Government subsidised fee: $160.00 per course (GST free). There are no fee exemptions, concessions or subsidies available for this option. Your tuition fee includes all essential study materials. Please contact your nearest TAFE Western campus or call us on 1300 823 393 for more information and payment options. Fees, charges and course offerings are subject to change.

A payment must be made towards your course fee (if applicable) at the time you enrol or your place in the class will not be confirmed and you will not be able to access any of your learning resources.

What do I need?

You are required to complete the assessments at home and submit to your TAFE trainer upon completion of the course.

In this blended learning course you will work through the learning resources, complete the assessment activities then return to your trainer for marking. Your trainer will provide support over the phone or via email. Learning resources will be sent to you on request.
