About the Course

This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector as a departmental or small business manager. The diversity of employers includes restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafs, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage and gaming.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

How will I study?

While there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, TAFE Western conditions of entry are. Be currently employed or have recent experience in the food and beverage sector of the hospitality industry.

Student who undertake this distance participation mode will need to contact the section to ensure they are able to meet the functional unit component of the course – by either being currently employed in the industry or have recent and relevant workplace experience preferably at a supervisory level.

This delivery mode is targeted to existing workers or participants who are geographically isolated or have life or work commitments, which would preclude college, based attendance.
Your teacher will provide study support online, over the phone or via email. Your learning resources will be sent to you as required.

Student who undertake this distance participation mode will need to contact the section to ensure they are able to meet the functional unit component of the course – by either being currently employed in the industry or have recent and relevant workplace experience preferably at a supervisory level.
If you have no previous hospitality practical experience some attendance at the campus will be required to undertake practical units of competence or alternatively find appropriate employment locally.

Tourism in particular has been singled out as one of Australia ‘Fantastic Five’ growth sectors over the next 20 years. On average tourism directly accounts for around 2.8 per cent of GDP and 4.7 per cent of employment. It also contributes significantly to regional and remote economies by providing jobs in communities where they are no other employment opportunities"

Class attendance is Part time

The course is also a flexible self -paced distance mode and no attendance is required.

Course length: 25 hours per week for 1 Year

What will I pay?

A VET student loan may be available to eligible students to cover some or all of their course fees. More information will be made available closer to your enrolment.
A course related charge of $100 is applicable to this course, The fee is for learner resources this fee needs to be paid at the time of enrolment

The amount you pay will depend on your individual circumstances.

TAFE NSW Government-subsidised fee (for eligible students): Up to $4,230.00 (GST free).

The fee that is displayed is the price for a student completing their second qualification and meeting eligibility criteria. The fee you pay may be lower depending on your personal circumstances and eligibility for a subsidised place, a concession or an exemption. In some cases there are limited government subsidised places available.

Please contact your nearest TAFE Western campus or call us on 1300 823 393 for a personal fee assessment and to find out if you are eligible for a government subsidised place. If you do not gain a subsidised place you may be able to enrol and pay the non-government subsidised fee.

A payment must be made towards your course fee (if applicable) at the time you enrol or your place in the class will not be confirmed and you will not be able to access any of your learning resources.
