No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Available as an apprenticeship

On-campus learning of theoretical content will be supplemented with workplace experiences. Students will have access to workplaces which can provide experiences and learning to support the agreed units for the qualification. (for apprentices)

It is envisaged that the workplace will be able to provide relevant experiences to support the classroom delivery.

TAFE at School (TVET)

TAFE Western offers many face to face and flexible TVET courses giving you the option of gaining a vocational qualification whilst you are at school. A TVET qualification can count towards your HSC, and 74.8% of TAFE graduates move into employment upon completion of their vocational qualifications. TVET is a great way to gain some practical skills in an adult learning environment, and the skills and experience you learn could also count towards your next qualification.

School Trainee

This course is targeted to people who have access to a combination of school, part time employment and vocational study.

All training will be conducted in the workplace and supported by:

  • learning resources provided by TAFE Western
  • standard operating procedures and work instructions available in the workplace
  • equipment provided in the workplace

Students undertaking employment based learning will have access to TAFE facilities and support including:

  • Student HUB, library facilities and Education Support Officers to support research and independent learning activities
  • TAFE Counsellors, Aboriginal Community Consultants and Disability Support Services

How will I study?

In this workplace based course you will undertake your learning and assessment at work under the guidance of your supervisor. A NSW TAFE West Region assessor will visit your workplace to finalise your training and assessments. This program includes activities which are to be completed in your own time. Approximately 350,000 people are involved either directly in the supply chain or in the businesses that service this industry. The Australian production system is diverse, offering a wide variety of products to customers and consumers. The industry is renowned for its efforts in meeting customer needs and requirements. Major international customers for Australian meat are China, Japan the US and Korea, while the US and the Middle East are the dominant export markets for our sheep meat.
The Australian Red Meat Industry has an enviable international reputation as a leader in food safety and animal welfare. This earns the trust of the domestic and international consumers and allows access to all global markets.

This course contains 37 Core and 7 elective units.

This course is specifically delivered on the job, no attendance is required. All delivery and assessment is undertaken in the workplace.

What will I pay?

A course related charge of $200 is applicable to this course; the fee is for learner resources. This fee needs to be paid at the time of enrolment

The amount you pay will depend on your individual circumstances.

TAFE NSW Government-subsidised fee (for eligible students): Up to $2,620.00 per course (GST free).

The fee that is displayed is the price for a student completing their second qualification and meeting eligibility criteria. The fee you pay may be lower depending on your personal circumstances and eligibility for a subsidised place, a concession or an exemption. In some cases there are limited government subsidised places available.

Please contact your nearest TAFE Western campus or call us on 1300 823 393 for a personal fee assessment and to find out if you are eligible for a government subsidised place. If you do not gain a subsidised place you may be able to enrol and pay the non-government subsidised fee.
