TAFE Western Connect was one of 73 project submissions that were entered from each of the ten TAFE institutes in NSW. The project also won the gold ‘Support Services Category Award’.
IPROWD (Indigenous Police Recruitment Our Way Delivery Program), one of TAFE Western’s other entries, won a ‘Highly Commended Award’ in the Partnerships Category.
This is TAFE Western's second consecutive success in winning the Project of the Year Award. The Institute's Aboriginal Health training program won the overall award at the Quality Awards when they were held in Bathurst in 2010.
Jo Sedgers, Director Learning and Engagement and project team leader for TAFE Western Connect said “This is a fantastic result for TAFE Western. TAFE Western Connect was launched a year ago and every staff member at TAFE Western has worked hard to make it successful. This year TAFE Western Connect has helped over 3,000 students gain skills and qualifications.
“TAFE Western Connect is a regional strategy to ensure that TAFE Western’s delivery of vocational education and training continues to make a vital contribution to Western NSW giving access to a wider range of courses offered in all of the Institute’s communities” Ms Sedgers said.
“TAFE Western Connect links, coordinates and promotes TAFE Western’s online, mobile and flexible delivery services to provide an increased range of courses and delivery options for students in small and medium sized communities of western NSW.”
Two other TAFE Western projects were also shortlisted for category awards; ‘Bridging the Gap for Aboriginal People in Western NSW’ which showcased the Institute’s efforts to engage with, and meet the needs of, Aboriginal people and communities in Western NSW; and ‘Beyond the Goal Posts – TAFE Western Country Rugby League Partnership Program’ which showcased the Institute’s work in using sport to engage school children in education.
Two other teams from TAFE Western showcased work in the CBD College Partnership and the Orana Safe Houses project. All of these projects characterise the innovative and effective training that every staff member contributes to.
