Automotive Teachers and students from Bathurst and Orange TAFE took "practical industry experience" to a new level during the recent Bathurst car races.
At the invitation of the organising committee TAFE mechanics set up their workshop to repair vehicles participating in the three day Festival of Sporting Cars races at Mount Panorama over the Easter weekend.
There were 550 cars competing in 30 events during the weekend and the TAFE crew managed to carry out repairs on 60 of them.
Steve Evans, Head Teacher Automotive for TAFE NSW Western Institute said, "Drivers were ecstatic that were able to keep them on the road especially those that had serious breakdowns and would otherwise have been forced to put the car back on a trailer and head home.
"In all five teachers and 12 students from first, second and third year apprentice training participated in the TAFE repair service.
"We've even been asked to consider offering a similar service at other classic car events. Overall the event was a huge success and TAFE is proud to have made a contribution", he said.
