SEEKING INTEREST: TAFE Western Manager of Educational Programs Michael Bourke and WNSWLHD Director of Mental Health Drug and Alcohol Services Jason Crisp are encouraging people to consider a career in mental health.
Enrolments and expressions of interest are now being sought for an exciting new 12-month mental health course being offered in partnership between TAFE Western and Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD).
TAFE Western Manager of Educational Programs Michael Bourke said the course would be perfect for anyone who had ever considered mental health as a profession.
“There are no restrictions so people who have studied previously, or anyone looking for a rewarding career change or to upskill in this area would be ideal for this Certificate III qualification,” Mr Bourke said.
“TAFE Western and WNSWLHD have worked hard to develop a course and training that will equip participants with the necessary skills to be primed and ready to enter the mental health workforce.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for up to 20 students to get quality training, on-the-job experience and life-long skills that have the potential to deliver real employment outcomes.”
WNSWLHD Director of Mental Health Drug and Alcohol Services Jason Crisp said he expected a good response to the new course.
“It’s such an exciting and progressive time to be working in mental health service delivery with many new opportunities opening up over the next few years with the Health District and our partnering non-government organisations,” he said.
“We encourage anyone who is interested in a career in mental health services to take this opportunity to get the skills and training to get them work-ready”.
As part of the course, participants will be involved in a six week work placement, as well as additional support and in-service training offered by mental health educators and staff at Bloomfield Hospital.
It’s anticipated that this exciting new program will begin in semester two, July 2016.
