Saliba wins 'Golden Stencil' at the Show
The 2015 AWEX/TAFE NSW National Graduate Wool Classer Competition was held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the Sydney Royal Easter show.
This is the fourth year the national competition has been held which brings together the best graduate wool classers from across Australia.
TAFE Western student, Ms Gabrielle Saliba took out the DAS Campbell Prize for being the best NSW competitor in Wool Classing. She also won the national ‘Golden Stencil’, following an extensive practical skills competition.
Gabrielle is from Gulgong and was trained by Frank Roberts of TAFE Western. Frank was also acknowledged for his commitment to the industry and educating other with the award of the Dennis Teasdale Memorial Trophy.
The AWEX/TAFE NSW competition has proved to be a showcase for wool classing and the wool industry.
The sustained pressure of the competition over six hours is what sets this competition apart from anything else on the industry calendar.
It aims to recognise excellence in wool classing and education and to lift wool classing’s profile as a profession and career opportunity.
