TAFE Western continues to expand on important partnerships in China, with Katherine Lance’s recent working trip to Wuxi International Childcare Centre in Shanghai delivering positive outcomes.
Mrs Lance, TAFE Western’s Head Teacher for Children’s Services in Dubbo, Mudgee and Northwest, said the aim of the trip was to share important Australian childcare training methods, work practices and skills.
“The content of the training involved looking at how we deliver children’s services in Australia, the importance of play in children’s development, providing natural play spaces for children, working with babies and toddlers and the use of investigative projects when working with children,” Mrs Lance said.
“The feedback I received from participants was very positive. I feel that relationships were further strengthened between TAFE Western and Wuxi International Childcare Centre and that will hopefully lead to further training opportunities.”
Despite some difficulties at first working with a translator, Mrs Lance said the trip provided the perfect opportunity for her to expand her teaching skills while immersing herself in a new culture.
“China is already doing many great things within the children’s services industry and it was great to get an insight into them,” she said.
“I forged many great friendships within the group and I loved the enthusiasm they showed for the training.
“The whole trip was a fantastic opportunity. I thoroughly enjoyed the teaching and the cultural experience of working in another country.”
Mrs Lance’s visit to Wuxi International Childcare Centre comes fresh off a recent visit to the same centre by ten Dubbo Outbound Mobility students. This visit also helped strengthen ties while teaching TAFE Western’s students life-long teaching skills.
“I see this partnership with Wuxi International Childcare as a very important one for TAFE Western with opportunities for expansion in the future,” Mrs Lance said.
“I would encourage everyone to take up an opportunity to teach in another country and have a fabulous experience like I did.”
