For years, Gladwyn Dunn dreamed of one day getting a job working in the great outdoors. Now, thanks to the skills and knowledge gained through a number of courses at TAFE Western, that dream has become a reality.
“I am achieving my goals thanks to TAFE Western,” a delighted Gladwyn said. “Working at Bathurst Regional Council in the parks and gardens team was something I have wanted to do for a very long time.
“I love working with my colleagues and doing jobs that make the Bathurst parks and gardens come alive and I’m really proud to be part of a team that keeps the town looking great.”
The road to Bathurst Regional Council was not an easy one for Gladwyn. He finished three courses at TAFE Western: Basic Work Skills Program; Certificate in Parks and Gardens and Certificate III in Community Services; held a number of jobs and was half way through a Certificate II in Business course at Cowra College when he finally landed his dream gig.
“I really enjoy going to TAFE Western, I have learnt so much and have met a lot of people who are still my friends today,” he said.
“I can’t speak highly enough of TAFE Western’s teachers – they have so much knowledge and experience in the subjects they teach…. they inspired me in so many ways.”
TAFE Western Business Teacher Kathryn Cahill said Gladwyn’s love of TAFE was evident even today, as he continues to complete his Certificate II Business Course remotely while working at Bathurst Regional Council.
“Gladwyn is a fine example of TAFE Western’s ability to change lives,” she said. “Gladwyn has an excellent work ethic and takes pride in his work, completing every task to the best of his abilities.
“He is always willing to put in extra effort when required and although outside of his industry of choice, Gladwyn originally enrolled in the Certificate II in Business because he recognised the knowledge and skills he would gain could be used across several areas and would serve to enhance his job prospects.
“He has clear goals in life and it’s really pleasing that all his hard work and efforts are paying off.”
Gladwyn added: “I’m just so happy at the moment and whatever else I learn and take on in my job is a bonus,” he said.
“I would just like to say a big thank you once again to TAFE Western and the Bathurst Regional Council.”
