TAFE Western will hold a special information session in Dubbo on November 26 – aimed at informing local builders and carpenters about exciting changes to training methods to be introduced in 2016.
Head Teacher Building Industries Dubbo Matt White said TAFE Western would introduce an alternative delivery model in 2016 with a huge focus on students spending less time in the classroom.
“The new model that we are keen to introduce will allow apprentices to spend far more time learning on the job and less time in the TAFE Workshop,” Mr White said.
“This will be extremely beneficial to all employers because they’ll be able to play a greater part in their apprentice’s training.”
Mr White said there were three main options available to all apprentices and employers.
1) They can continue to use the current practice of the majority of training and assessing being provided through face-to-face block releases at TAFE;
2) All possible training and assessing can be carried out on construction sites, which will dramatically reduce the amount of time apprentices are required to attend class; or
3) Using a mixed blend of the above options.
“This new flexible delivery model allows more options to suit the individual needs of TAFE Western’s apprentices and employers,” Mr White said.
“This information evening will focus on providing those who come along with knowledge about changes to these training packages and how they can benefit from these new and exciting study options.”
Guest speakers for the evening include State Training Services, TAFE Western and Skillset, with light refreshments to be served. Builders who attend the presentation will receive two Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points for their attendance.
The information evening will be at the Macquarie Inn on Thursday, November 26, from 5pm.
Everyone involved in the building and carpentry industries, along with those considering putting on an apprentice, are encouraged to get along to this free event.
