Teachers, students and children who come to the ‘Playhouse’ at Broken Hill TAFE are enjoying a new outdoor play area at the campus.
“It all began last year with teaching staff sharing ideas on ways to develop the area outside of the old manager’s residence, which we use for play sessions, into a safer play space for children,” she said.
“We worked together with the horticulture section drawing plans and developing ideas incorporating skills from both section’s theory and units of study.”
With the combination of the skills of the two sections, the practical work of the staff and students from the Certificate III in Horticulture and a load of sand, concrete, pavers, posts, shade sails and plants the Playhouse now has a fantastic outdoor play area.
“This venture also provided an opportunity for teachers and students from several different disciplines to apply and learn from a real-world project including paving, creating retaining and timber construction,” she said.
As part of NSW Children’s Week Celebrations, and to celebrate the development of the facility, the Playhouse will be open for the community to visit on Thursday, 26 October from .
