The popularity of a pilot program to increase the number of Aboriginal students studying media and journalism at Dubbo TAFE has resulted in a large number of students requesting to continue their studies next year.
Students enrolled in the Introductory Media/Journalism course run at Dubbo TAFE during Term 4 of 2008 received tuition in news gathering, interview techniques, story writing and photography.
The pilot program was initiated through a partnership with Housing NSW, which produces a monthly newsletter for its clients.
Students studying the Introductory Media/Journalism course were given the opportunity to have their work published in the newsletter on an ongoing basis.
The enthusiastic students, who passed the first stage of their studies, have requested places in a proposed Aboriginal Media and Communications course at Dubbo TAFE starting in February 2009.
Enquiries regarding course places for 2009 can be directed to Dubbo TAFE Aboriginal coordinator Wendy Lake on 02 6883 3418 or media teacher Steve Hodder on 0419 620 758.
