School based Apprenticeships or Traineeships are a combination of school, part time employment and vocational study.
A school based Apprentice or Trainee can attain a nationally recognised TAFE qualification and a Higher School Certificate (HSC) as well as valuable work skills and experience through paid employment.
If you are a school based Apprentice or Trainee you will be paid for working part time currently between 100 and 180 days - usually one day a week - but this may require you to do some work during school hours or holidays. As a school based Apprentice or Trainee, your formal training - usually 4-6 hours per week during school terms - counts as a HSC subject. In some cases, it can also be used in calculating your ATAR. You need to discuss school based Apprenticeships or Traineeships with your school's career advisor.
If you continue in the Trade or Traineeship after you leave school, you will receive recognition for all the work you have completed during your school based Apprenticehip or Traineeship. This will enable you to gain your industry qualifications much quicker after leaving school.
