TAFE NSW is committed to the implementation of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 and other associated health and safety legislation. TAFE NSW aims to protect its workers and other persons against harm to their health, safety and welfare through the elimination or minimisation of risks arising from the TAFE workplace and its associated activities.
TAFE NSW also aims to secure the health and safety of staff and others by considering all physiological, psychological and environmental factors to enable the highest degree of physical, mental and social well being in their work environment.
The Department of Education and Communities (DEC) is the entity which holds the ‘Primary Duty of Care’ and is defined by the WHS Act 2011 as the Person Conducting Business or Undertaking (PCBU- formerly referred to as the ‘employer’) who must now ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of:
TAFE NSW and all its workers are responsible for Work Health and Safety, however there are specific responsibilities for WHS in TAFE NSW that are determined by the duties performed in the TAFE workplace under the Act 2011, ‘Division 4 Duty of officers, workers and other persons’. In TAFE NSW these duties and responsibilities are held and performed by Institute Directors, senior managers, line managers, individual staff members, teachers and students.
Having all stakeholders within TAFE NSW perform their duties in a diligent manner will assist TAFE NSW to comply with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 and other associated health and safety legislation.
It is the policy of TAFE NSW - Western Institute to ensure so far as is reasonably practicable, that all its workers (employees), students, visitors and contractors are safe from injury and risks to health while on TAFE premises. Western Institute intends to meet this commitment by ensuring that work practices and procedures comply with the Acts and Regulations governing Work Health, Safety and Welfare.
It is a requirement of all Workers, students, visitors and contractors to ensure all practical measures are observed to provide a safe and healthy working and learning environment.
